MAST Project Again Welcome, Diocese of Gizo.

Again, the Diocese of Gizo was blessed with the MAST project to host five Marianist missionaries from the USA, who arrived safely in the Diocese beginning this month of July.

Demo Pilgrims of Hope

They include Bro. Michael McAward CHS ‘76, Bro. Patrick Cahill CHS ‘11, Matt Mormondo KMHS ‘22, Angel Jimenez CHS ‘22, Aidan Weber CHS ’23, and they are accompanied by Fr. Mark Misiwasi from the Archdiocese of Honiara, who coordinated the program.

They spent four days with our Catholic teachers, studying Scripture, prayer, liturgy, and defending our faith.

Participants are teachers from St. Eusebius Noro and St. Peter Gizo (Teacher includes PPY, Sunday school, Primary, Secondary, and Training schools).

The MAST Project was launched at the generous invitation of Bishop Christopher Cardone OP (now Archbishop) of Catholic Auki. So, in 2003, our diocese welcomed two Marianist Brothers from New York as part of the MAST initiative. Since then, we've welcomed them each year. Unfortunately, the program was halted here in our diocese during the rehabilitation period following the 2007 earthquake and tsunami.

MAST stands for Marianist Apostolic & Spiritual Training. The program focuses on making teachers aware that they are key to spreading the Gospel of Christ in their classrooms, villages, and communities. Therefore, time is spent strengthening the pillars of faith that will empower them as Catholic educators. (Br. Roger and Br. John. MAST Program 2009 Gizo).
